About Roatan

Enlarge map of Roatan

The island of Roatan is located in the Bay Islands of Honduras, about 300 miles west of the Cayman Islands, 30 miles north of the mainland of Honduras. The Bay Islands were British colonies until the 1850's. Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands, about 34 miles long and app. 1 to 6 miles wide.

Roatan offers some of the world's best scuba diving. The island is surrounded by the world's second largest coral reef. This provides calm, clear beaches for swimming and snorkelling. Roatan is not as 'touristy' as many Caribbean islands, but you will find plenty of activities and things to see. The island's friendly, 'laid back' atmosphere is ideal for relaxing, and the many restaurants, bars and attractions offer a wide choice of the day as well as the evening.
